Dunlop is a company with a rich history, and one that is steeped in innovation in the world of tyres. Dunlop’s story began in 1888, when John Boyd Dunlop developed a pneumatic tyre for his son’s tricycle. From there, Dunlop has grown to become a globally recognised brand and a leader in the field of tyres.
Today, Dunlop is co-owned by Sumitomo Rubber Industries and continues to build on its reputation for incomparable quality and innovation. With extensive manufacturing operations throughout the world and a strong distribution network, the company is perfectly positioned to serve its international customer base.
A global tyre and rubber company, Sumitomo Rubber Industries can trace its origins back to 1909, when the Sumitomo Group invested in Dunlop Japan. However, it wasn’t until 1963, when the Sumitomo Group acquired Dunlop Japan, that the company was renamed the now-familiar Sumitomo Rubber Industries.
Sumitomo Rubber Industries holds the Dunlop brand rights in markets including the Middle East, Africa, Japan, Russia and Turkey.
In 2008, to strengthen its position in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, Sumitomo Rubber Middle East FZE (SRME), a 100% subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, was established in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. From its Dubai base, SRME manages the sales, marketing and technical support for the MENA region.
